The issue my project addressed was the awareness of young children in emergency situations such as fires, illness, accidents, neglect, abuse, homelessness, and weather emergencies (such as tornadoes, floods, hurricanes). My goal is to comfort children in emergency situations and make these young kids feel a little safer when they need it most by raising awareness in my community.

Homelessness

Children experiencing homelessness are sick four times more often than other children, go hungry at twice the rate, and have three times the rate of emotional and behavioral problems compared to non-homeless children.

Abuse

A report of a child abuse is made every ten seconds. Every year, more than 3 million reports of child abuse are made in the United States involving more than 6 million children.

Accidents & Illness

Accidents (unintentional injuries) and congenital malformations, deformations and chromosomal abnormalities are the leading causes of death in children ages 1-4.
